Pentecost is the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit and therefore the birthday of the one (unified), holy (dedicated, set apart), catholic (all-encompassing, universal) and apostolic (sent) church. It is celebrated 50 days after Passover (Pasha, Easter).
It was put on the heart of some Christian leaders in the city to once again come together to express the unity that does exist in the Christian Church. We are doing it because showing love, respect and care for one another, despite our differences, is what Jesus called us to do. God the Father, through Jesus & The Holy Spirit started one church to exist as a diverse and unified body, reflecting Who God is. As a family, you need to have the occasional family reunion!
No, Pentecost 2020 is free as the cost is being covered by donations.
During the service, there will be prayer, singing. and worship. We all participate in this way. You can participate more specifically by helping your church prepare some things that we will use during the service.
A Church, fellowship or communion that confesses at least the 66 un-contended books of Scriptures and at least one of the Nicene or Apostles Creeds* and that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father by the power of the Holy Spirit and therefore the only Way to eternal life, healing and restoration.
To be obedient to Jesus instruction to love one another so that the world might know that we are sent by Him. To worship and highlight Jesus through the grace of the Holy Spirit and in doing so glorifying the Father. When we do this we believe that Jesus through the Holy Spirit will make us able to see our differences as gifts instead of sources of division. To repent from our sins and to seek healing that can only come from God. To establish and re-establish relationships and covenants between people and churches. To be inspired to be Jesus’ hands and feet in a hurting world.
People from all generations, from many different nations and peoples. People from many (if not all) different Christian denominations in Saskatoon. The service will be a microcosm of the diversity we find in Saskatoon and in Canada. There will be people coming in from the different parts of the province as well as from further away.
Absolutely, Pentecost 2020 welcomes all people to join us as we direct our attention to Jesus.
The service itself will emphasis participation rather than observation. We anticipate a 14,000+ person gathering with everything that entails. We will sing, confess our faith, hear scriptures, pray and acknowledge where we have missed the mark as Church. We hope and pray that the Pentecost that took place almost 2000 years will come alive narrated by the voices we often fail to hear, the children. During the service actions of unity will take place. Representatives from the different churches will lay down the fabrics in front of the cross. We will place the different names of our respective churches next to the cross.
At 5:00pm the official service is over but if you would like to stay and worship or connect with new friends you can do so. Music and prayer will continue. We also encourage you to share a meal together after you leave. If you are connected to a church or with a Christian organization we encourage you to continue to interact with your neighbour church and to pray together. We encourage you to have a positive impact on Saskatoon by volunteering at different places of ministry. It is our hope and prayer that the Holy Spirit will move us to have a loving and lasting impact on Saskatoon, the province and beyond. If you are not currently connected to a church we encourage you to visit one and check it out. After the service you can stay up to date by following @pentecost2020sk.
It is rush seating, so you are welcome to choose your seats on a first come, first serve basis. The stage will be centred in the arena so everyone should be able to see what is going on. If you anticipate more than 300 people from your church attending, please send an email to pentecost2020vision@gmail.com
We will use hymns and songs that are well established over denominational history and lines. A couple of examples are: “How Great Thou Art” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. Imagine 14,000 people singing these songs together!
Yes, there will be an offering for the purpose of covering expenses and for the future work of unity in Saskatoon.
